The book describes the phenomenon of Ashkenazi Jewish women, authors, translators and editors of prayer books (2nd half of the 19th century - 1st half of the 20th century). Prayer books are an indispensable medium, artifacts accompanying Jewish women in their lives regardless of the language, place and time of publication. Prayers reflect the spiritual needs of women, petrify traditional religious patterns, especially the ideal of a pious Jewish woman. However, the creators of religious literature break the stereotype of women assigned only to the private sphere. In the multilingual corpus of analyzed texts, the most numerous are collections in German, with a few in English, Polish and Hungarian. Both these works and their creators cross the borders of Central and Eastern Europe and the narrowly understood Ashkenazi.
