The activity of the architect Ivan Oleksandrovych Bagenskyi (1883–1967), a professor of the Lviv Polytechnic, a scientist, practitioner, restorer and theoretician of architecture, and a public figure, is described in detail. It is noted that talent, encyclopedic knowledge and perfect expertise enabled Bagensky to preserve classical traditions in various stylistic modifications, which makes the master's legacy a source of inspiration for architects of the 21st century. The scientific work is supplemented by the characteristics of the architectural and urban culture of the region in the late 18th - early 20th cc. and numerous archival materials.
