This book about Lithuanian goldsmiths was planned and begun more than thirty years ago by the noted Lithuanian historian and collector Edmundas Laucevicius (1906-1973). The author planned to write a history, which reflected the social context of the goldsmith's craft in Lithuania. The book consists of two large parts: historical sketches about the techniques of the goldsmith and assaying, about goldsmith's guild in Vilnius, about assay hall in Kaunas and about Jewish goldsmiths. The publication contains masterly taken color photographs supplementing the texts.
