This publication comprises prosaic works by the famous Russian emigrant writer Yuz Aleshkovsky. The author’s life and career in the Soviet Union were characteristic of the fate of many non-conformist writers and artists of his time. His best-known works were the anti-Stalinist songs he wrote when he was in prison in the early 1950s. These songs revealed the absurdity of the Soviet life and were sung to a rhythm beaten out on the table.
