The national mind is a collective mind. It functions through many different individuals. They usually live separately from one another but they live the life of the nation as their own life, thinking about the nation's problems and trying to formulate the ideas which the nation wants to express. They are the chroniclers of time. We should remember that the national mind is both abstract and concrete. It is not anonymous; it is the sum total of concrete people possessing strong national awareness. Therefore, in tracing the history of the Bulgarian mind, we actually trace the evolution of the thinking of its most prominent exponents who captured the spirit of the times and formulated and spread the main ideas in Bulgarian history.
