The monograph enters uncharted territory as it traces the history of the Universal White Brotherhood during the communist era in Bulgaria (1944-1989) and the communist government's policy towards this religious movement founded by Peter Deunov in the early 20th century. Drawing on a vast body of source material and literature, the study gives an impartial account of the least-known period in the history of the Brotherhood and makes a critical analysis of popular myths and exaggerations about it.
