A collection of essays and articles by Viivi Luig (born 1946), which includes texts from different decades. When placed next to each other, these stories acquired new dimensions and meanings, which also somewhat surprised the author herself during the process of compiling the book. The newest, previously unpublished text “Literacy, War and the Ivory Tower” was written in the spring of 2024. All the stories speak of the present, another era of madness, the creation of which is the responsibility and witness of all those who are alive today. This perspective makes Viivi Luig’s work breathtaking and touching for a larger number of Estonian readers. The publication of the book has been supported by the Ministry of Education and Research, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia, the Estonian Thought Foundation and the city of Tartu.
