The monograph is devoted to zoomorphic images of the Sarmatian era of the II century. BC. - beginning of the 2nd century AD from the funerary monuments of the southern Russian steppes of the Lower Volga, Don region, Dnieper, Prikubanie. The work provides a historiographic review, describes zoomorphic images of monochrome and polychrome animal style, the technique of making objects, and also examines the origins of visual techniques in the transfer of popular images and compositions. Separate sections are devoted to the relationships of zoomorphic motifs with their natural prototypes, the dependence of images on the shape of the subject, and the search for centers of production. The problems of the relationship between the art of animal style of the Scythian and Sarmatian eras are also raised. The monograph is equipped with a detailed catalog and extensive illustrative material.
