The duet of Lydia Blinova and Rustam Khalfin played an important role in the formation of Kazakhstan's contemporary art scene. They were not only spouses, but also companions in art, often creating joint conceptual projects that were at the intersection of several disciplines - architecture, painting, sculpture, performance. The concept of “polota”, a combination of emptiness and fullness, a kind of “surplus element of art” according to Malevich, was developed jointly by the spouses and can serve as a vivid example of the collective intellectual work of artists. Khalfin himself called Blinova his "alter ego".
“The essays collected in this book are not art criticism or art history essays. These are not memories or even literary portraits, but rather not a very skillful declaration of love. The reader will undoubtedly notice that the declaration of love in this case is addressed not only to the main character of the essays - to Lydia Blinova and Rustam Khulfin - but also to those thinkers, writers and artists who are mentioned and quoted in these texts ”.
