Vytautas Pliura (1951–2011) is a poet, playwright, the son of a Lithuanian diaspora and an American who worked in English. He, like other confessors of confessional poetry, Robert Lowell, John Berrymann, Sylvia Plath or Anne Sexton, speaks unadorned, rudely and piercingly openly. Even in Lithuanian poetry, it would be difficult to find voices similar to V. Pliuras. Translations of this poet's poems are published in Lithuania for the first time.
