The book tells the history of an apartment house, which became known in St.Petersburg literature as "Jacqeau House", "Yakovlev's House", or "The Dashkovs' House". Most of the articles of the book narrate about the night club-cabaret "Stray Dog", opened in the basement of the house by B.Pronin, a club that gathered under its roof A.Akhmatova, O.Mandelshtam, N.Gumilev, M.Kuzmin, V.Khlebnikov, V.Mayakovsky and a great number of other talented people. Information on the musical-literary salon of the Dukes Mikhail and Matvei Viel'gorskii, the Dashkov Family and the revival of the "Stray Dog" in our time is included.
