This study, prepared with the support of extensive press research and archival documents, recounts the activities and history of Babiali and Beyoglu's former booksellers. Many of these booksellers, whose names are often unknown, were Turkish, while others were foreign (German, French, Italian) or, as in the case of Haşet Kitabevi, foreign-funded. By narrating the life stories of these important figures in Istanbul's cultural history, this book makes a modest contribution to the history of books and culture.
