This book is the result of a lot of painstaking research work, which grew into long conversations with many relatives of the keepers of the old faith who passed away, as well as with the mentors themselves, who continue to observe religious principles today.
The book is about people whose faith in God over several centuries helped not only to endure incredible hardships, but also to preserve to this day priceless monuments of the Old Orthodox culture: icons, copper casting, handwritten books, znamenny singing, various folk crafts and much, much more. In the book you will also find information about the period of formation and development of the Old Believers in the Pechora North, about the influence of Old Orthodoxy on the worldview and way of life of the Old Believers of the Ust-Tsilemsky district. The analysis of scientific and research works, as well as the author's field materials, allowed us to create a unique gallery of biographies of the keepers of the old faith, to highlight the colorful details of everyday life, inextricably linked with the spiritual life of the harsh northern region, many of whose residents still consider themselves the heirs of Archpriest Avvakum.
