The book is dedicated to the destiny and scientific heritage of the prominent public figure, enlightener and researcher of the North-Western Caucasus of the last third of the XIXth century Eugeny Felitsyn. He has created a documentary archive for studuing the Kuban Cossacks and region in common in the end of the XVIIIth – first half of the XIXth centuries. Statistical and ethnographic works by Felitsyn contain ultimately valuable information about the pedigree and the quantity of the Highlanders of the Kuban region in 1880. On the basis of various sources, most published for the first time, the author restores the biography of Felitsyn and highlights the main directions of Felitsyns’ researches and their practical significance.
