Three stories are united by the theme of survival and struggle of ordinary people in the territory of Belarus occupied by the Germans from the moment the occupier's boot stepped on Belarusian soil until the liberation of not only our country, but all of Europe.
The heroine of the story "Sniper Masha" Maria Ivushkina is not Belarusian by origin, but she had to fight the fascists on Belarusian soil. Seventy-five fascists were destroyed by sniper Masha during the war, but for some reason her hand did not pull the trigger when a young German soldier was in the sights of the rifle. Half a century passed, and their meeting took place in Minsk. The author of the book "Sniper Masha" very clearly conveyed the common desire of all people (both Belarusians and Germans): no one needs war!
The main events of the story "Fathers-soldiers" took place in the Dzerzhinsk region during the war. The son of the Khmelevskikhs, Zmitser, who survived a complex operation to blow up a German embrasure in 1944 (he was even considered dead), believed that he was saved by the icon of the Mother of God, given to him by his mother. After the war, he became a priest, studied at pastoral and theological courses, then at the theological seminary in Zhirovichi.
The third story, "Bitter Honey of Foreign Lands," tells the story of a girl, Vera Melnik, from Smolevichi, who was forcibly sent to Germany by the Germans for slave labor.
Vera, along with other girls, first worked in a foundry at a plant located on the outskirts of Leipzig. It was a real hell.
The author talks about the hard work of a Belarusian girl on a farm , in the household, and caring for a disabled war veteran. The attitude towards people who found themselves in slavery in a foreign land against their will has not remained the same as it was when Vera Melnik returned to her homeland from Germany. The girl's documents for admission to the pedagogical institute were not even accepted. Despite everything, Vera found a job, fell in love and gave birth to children.
