Until now, the name of Hanna Barvinok appeared on the pages of Ukrainian publications only in the company of her extremely famous husband, Panteleimon Kulish. The life and work of this woman are indeed inextricably linked with him, but it was Oleksandra Kulisheva, or Belozerska (maiden surname) that we have unjustly forgotten.
Hanna Barvinok's stories, taken from the lips of the people, were in no way inferior to the works of Mark Vovchoek or Natalia Kobrynska, but her pseudonym was lost in history, overshadowed by more famous names, and Oleksandra Kulisheva herself dissolved in the radiance of her husband and his illustrious circle of friends.
The material for this book was collected from scraps, manuscripts, some of which were deciphered and published for the first time. Some of the memoirs lay in manuscripts in archives for over a hundred years.
