Taras Shevchenko, Mykola Kostomarov and Panteleimon Kulish met on the streets of Kyiv. Pavlo Chubynskyi created a poem that would later become the anthem of Ukraine, and Hrushevskyi held public events for Russified Kyivans. They lived, laid the foundations of political life and created history with their own hands.
Ihor Hyrych depicts the people of Kyiv who ideologically changed the city and turned it into the Ukrainian capital. Sunday schools, Ukrainian circles in gymnasiums and seminaries, national societies, magazines and newspapers that, step by step, reclaimed the city's socio-cultural space from the Russians.
