The monograph examines the life and activities of Russians in northern Norway, primarily in Finnmark, from 1800 to early 1917. The activities of Russians (fishing, trade) are shown in the international legal, political, and religious contexts, both in peacetime and in wartime - during the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War, and the First World War. Each chapter pays close attention to people who later became widely known or, on the contrary, were undeservedly forgotten, but whose views and actions, one way or another, influenced the development of events. The book is written primarily on the basis of documents from Russian archives, primarily the State Archives of the Arkhangelsk Region and the Archives of Foreign Policy of the Russian Empire. It is addressed to specialists in the history of Russian-Norwegian relations, the Scandinavian countries, the Russian North and all those interested in this topic.
