The book by Mikhail Smolin, a historian and political essays writer, is dedicated to the issue of imperial revival of Russia as the only way to renew the Russian State system today. If the Russians do not answer such questions as ‘who are we?’ and ‘what is our goal?’ they will go from one extreme to another, from west to east. Avoiding settling these questions makes creation of historical and political ideologies of the West and the East easier, but do not correspond to self-consciousness of the nations, and cannot strengthen the Russian State system.
