This is the first fundamental research in Russia devoted to the “first wave” of Russian artistic emigration. The book tells about artists who studied and began their professional life on the territory of the Russian Empire but had to continue it in foreign countries: Turkey, the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, Czechoslovakia, Germany and France. The Russian emigrant art is viewed as a separate branch of the entire Russian artistic tradition that moved away from the native culture due to the revolution of 1917.
