The book of Protopresbyter Vitaly Borovoy (1916-2008) is devoted to an important but little studied episode in the history of Christian Europe - the so-called "Akaki schism". A detailed picture of the first open confrontation between Rome and Constantinople in 484-518. AD (prehistory, the chronology of events, the disclosure of the main motives of the participants, etc.) is given against the background of the struggle of these two centers of political and spiritual power of the Empire with monophysite heresy for the Chalcedonian dogma.
