The author investigates the obscure history of the most important book of the Soviet literature – “Quite Flows the Don” by M.A.Sholokhov (1905-1984). The novel was published in spite of the fact that it contained denunciation of the politics of the Soviet state and depicted the genocide of the Russian people. The tragic fate of S.Bondarchuk, the author of the great film version of the epic and outstanding Russian film director, parallels the fate of the writer. Both of them were forced to deal with attacks of the critics and foes till their last days.
