The Amu Darya is the second longest and the largest river in Central Asia. It is formed by the confluence of the Pyandzh and Vakhsh rivers and flows into the Aral Sea, forming a delta. In the middle reaches, three large right tributaries and one left tributary flow into the Amu Darya.
