This book is the first fundamental study in Ukraine, which analyzes the process of adaptation of French post-impressionism in the works of Ukrainian colorists of the new wave. Since there was no higher art institution in the Ukrainian territories before 1917, Ukrainians received their art education in St. Petersburg, Krakow, Vienna, Munich, Paris, Rome, and Budapest. Therefore, the circumstances that directly influenced the further development of Ukrainian painting have historically been formed outside Ukraine. While studying in Europe, the spokesmen of Ukrainian culture became the recipients of the Art Nouveau style. Innovative artistic tendencies of art nouveau turned out to be worldview "crossroads" in the works of M. Burachek, A. Erdely, F. Krychevsky, A. Manevych, O. Murashko, O. Novakivsky and I. Severin, the traditions of which were continued by the followers of the next generation: E. Kontratovych , A. Kotska, R. Selsky, O. Shatkivsky, T. Yablonska.
The study introduces into scientific circulation significant factual material collected against the background of international socio-humanitarian discourse at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries. The publication is addressed to scientists, graduate students and students majoring in "Art History" and "Fine Arts" and all those who are not indifferent to the history of Ukrainian art and its significance in the world context.
