The collaborative research by O.Evangulova and A.Karev is devoted to the investigation of the unique variant of the art of European portrait - Russian portraiture. The authors display the formation process of moral authority of Russian portraiture and realization of the searches for humanistic ideals. Creative works of such artists as F.Rokotov, V.Borovnikovskii, D.Levitskii are examined from the point of their relation to the common artistic processes both in Russia and Europe. Apart from the above mentioned information in the work the contribution of the foreign artists to the development of Russian painting as well as provincial portraiture are investigated.
