This album, with an introduction by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, is richly illustrated (approximately 350 photos and documents), with excerpts from orders, memoirs of witnesses and participants in the war, and dozens of biographies of soldiers and officers distinguished by their courage in combat. World War II was not solely a conflict between the Allied powers and Nazi Germany. In the first phase of the conflict, which lasted nearly two years, the Third Reich had an ally in the Soviet Union, with which it cooperated closely in carrying out bloody conquests and which pursued a parallel program of extermination. It was not until the summer of 1941 that the countries of Hitler and Stalin entered a state of war. Shortly thereafter, the United States joined the conflict, which is still considered by many worldwide to mark the beginning of World War II. However, this is not true. In reality, World War II began on September 1, 1939. It was then, just before dawn, that the first German bombs fell on Polish cities, and the battleship Schleswig-Holstein shelled the military depot on Westerplatte. But hell was yet to begin. Just sixteen days later, the Red Army entered Polish territory. Darkness enveloped Poland.
