The book contains documents and materials (Ukrainian, Polish and German) about a series of actions carried out by units of the Polish underground in March–April 1944 in the territory of the Lublin District of the General Government of German-occupied Poland. These actions were directed against dozens of villages in the Hrubieszow County, where Ukrainians lived mainly. The scale and brutality of the attacks prompted the population to call them pogroms. As a result of the Polish actions in the spring of 1944, about 2,500 Ukrainian civilians were killed. The majority of the victims on the Ukrainian side were women and children. The village of Sahryn became a symbol of this tragedy, where Polish units killed 619 people in one night.
The largest and most important part of the collection is 68 protocols with eyewitness testimonies, they form the main body of documented descriptions of the events known today. This evidence is unique in its documentary value for establishing an authentic image of the past.
