The book by the last St.Petersburg symbolist is the first complete edition of his works (based on the materials of state archives and those of Skaldin’s family). A disciple of V.Ivanov, praised by A.Blok and A.Bely, a close friend of M.Kuzmin, G.Ivanov and R.Ivanov-Razumnik, Skaldin in many respects “predicted” the stylistic innovations of A.Platonov, L.Dobychin and the Oberiuts. Only two books by the writer were published in his lifetime (“Poems”, 1912; the novel “Traveling and Adventures of Nikodim the Elder”, 1917). His fate after the Revolution was tragic – he was thrice arrested and died in Karlag. The voluminous archives, including eight complete novels, a number of stories, short stories and unique correspondence, were lost. The edition also comprises a bibliographical essay and a thorough commentary.
