The author worked for many years on a military typology, which included the memoirs "Pine on the Road", "Wind in the Pines" and "The Forty-Third". In these works, the last of which was completed in 1973, the writer again relies on his life experience and observations of the war years. He illustrates the complexity of fighting the enemy in the occupied territory, which he saw with his own eyes and experienced himself. At the heart of the trilogy is the image of the main character - Miti Bird, who in his worldview is very close to the characters of the writer's early stories. There is a lot of autobiography in the biography of the hero, his character, behavior, but, as you know, a literary character is never an exact copy of the author. Ivan Khavimenko emphasized that this is connected with his hero. "My hero... Mitya Ptakh and I are different, he is not my copy, I did not write him entirely from myself", - claimed the novelist, making it clear to those in the know that the image of Mitya Ptakh embodied the typical traits of Belarusian youth. The novel "The Girl on the Road" was written in 1962 on the wave of the inspiring optimistic atmosphere of the "thaw" prevailing at that time in Soviet literature. The work is the beginning of the future trilogy and at the same time the most complete of its parts.
