The book deals with a huge region of the Russian Far East – the Amur region (Priamurye). This land stretches forth thousands of kilometers along the left bank of the Upper and Central Amur River. Nowadays this part is generally situated in borders of Amur oblast. Addressing to antiquity and the Middle Ages, the book also touches on territories of the Lower Amur (Khabarovsk Krai) and the right bank of the Amur (Heilongjiang province, People’s Republic of China). The book represents data on ethno-migratory processes, separate peoples, and the related archaeological and ethnic cultures and religions in historical sequence. The important place is given to an objective reconstruction of a modern set of ethnic and religious communities in the Amur region. The book is supplied with maps and diagrams reflecting the latest data on the history and the current state of ethnic processes and religious situation in the Amur region.
