This book represents materials and researches of Paul Celan, the greatest German lyric poet of after-war period also known as a translator of such Russian poets as Mandelshtam, Blok, Khlebnikov and others. Celan’s work reflects the tragic history of the XXth century as well as man’s personal experience survived Holocaust. His poetry has much in common with French, Russian and English poets of different epochs, Jewish mysticism and modern philosophy. The book contains analysis of Celan’s writings with long quotations from various translations (including those published for the first time) as well as simultaneous texts in the original. The book is dedicated to the dialogic principle in Celan’s creative activity, Celan’s connections with Russian poetry and Jewish sources.
