The book describes the fate of the Bulgarian community in Aegean Macedonia, or Greek Macedonia, in the context of the evolution of inter-ethnic relations in the region from the period before the collapse of the Ottoman Empire until the present day. Drawing on a variety of historical records, it reveals the predominantly Bulgarian character of the population of Aegean Macedonia. This is the first Bulgarian publication to carry an up-to-date list of settlements in Aegean Macedonia where Bulgarians still live nowadays, estimating the share of the Bulgarian community in the total population of each settlement. The author has tried to overcome common prejudices.
