Based on archival and published materials on the Vologda province, the history of the creation and activities of Orthodox brotherhoods in the post-reform period (late 19th - early 20th centuries) is examined. The reasons for the emergence and legislative basis for the activities of Orthodox brotherhoods have been identified. The status of members of fraternities, the evolution of the number and social composition of organizations are characterized. An analysis of the management and financing system of Orthodox societies was carried out. Particular attention is paid to the disclosure of religious, educational, missionary, charitable and church-building activities of fraternal organizations in the Vologda province.
