The lavishly illustrated issue is a pioneer attempt to collect Russian and foreign geographical and historical evidence about the territory of the Simbirsk Volga Region, including little known cartographical materials, starting from the ancient time to the 1920s, when the name Simbirsk disappears from geographical maps. The author reconstructs basic stages of settlement of the Simbirsk Volga territory in the course of Russian colonization as well as groups of historical sources devoted to the region.
