The book presents the first comprehensive study on the history of the Union of Reserve Officers in Bulgaria - an organization with a serious presence in the public and political life of the country in the first half of the twentieth century. Built on documentary sources, the study is an attempt to reveal part of the new Bulgarian history through the eyes of the reserve officers, who are convinced that they have the right to determine the fate of the Fatherland. The ideological development of the organization, its attitude to the main political phenomena — democracy, communism, fascism, as well as to key political events (such as the coups in 1923 and 1934 and the St Nedelya Church assault of 1925) are traced.
