Although studies on the science of astronomy were carried out in antiquity, there is no evidence of the establishment of observatories. The observatory was first established in the medieval Islamic world. It is claimed that the first person to build the observatory institution in world history was the Abbasid Caliph Me'mûn (813-833). With this aspect, the observatory is a work of Islamic civilization and culture. Observatories, which were different from the madrasah institution, which provided multi-faceted education, were also a specialization institution. Observatories financed by the states in the late Middle Ages also became a testament to the magnificence of the rulers. In this book, the subject of observatories, which were established in the medieval Islamic world and developed over time, is discussed.
