In the Preface to the Notes, Vasily (Luzhinsky) calls the goal of their creation: "... to serve as the right material for the future historian with regard to the reunion of the union in Belarus and Volhynia." The picture of reunification drawn by the author makes it possible to fully present the position of the local gentry, the Catholic clergy and the Belarusian peasantry in relation to the events. The merit of the author lies in the fact that on the pages of the Notes he recreates the liturgical practice of the Uniate Church of the time when Orthodox liturgical literature, liturgical utensils and priestly vestments were introduced, when the restructuring of the Uniate churches according to the Eastern tradition and the cleansing of divine services from the Latin layers were initiated priests collecting subscriptions about their desire to join the Orthodox Church. This campaign, conducted personally by the Polotsk archbishop and his closest associates, led to a frank discussion of the prospect of reunification among the Uniate clergy, and the consistent, albeit very cautious implementation of the liturgical reform brought together a wide circle of like-minded people who were convinced of the advisability of reunification.
The result of the activities of Vasily (Luzhinsky) was the creation of a new confessional situation on the Belarusian lands. This gives reason to consider Vasily (Luzhinsky) one of the outstanding archpastors of the Orthodox Church of Belarus. There is no doubt that the personality and church activity of Archbishop of Polotsk, the circle of his associates and employees is subject to study. This reprint of the Notes serves precisely this purpose.
