The memoirs by E.A.Nikolskii (1869-1938), written at the end of his life in California, cover more than 55 years of his active and saturated life in a complicated historical period. He spent his childhood in Finland, youth - in Saint-Petersburg and Moscow. Then he visited a great number of countries and cities, where the military and civil service sent him.
