Nikifor – a brilliant artist, one of the most outstanding naive painters, an unparalleled colorist who developed a unique style, drawing his first source of inspiration from Orthodox paintings. He was born on May 21, 1895, in Krynica-Wies as Epifaniusz Drowniak, the son of a Ruthenian woman, Eudokia, and died on October 10, 1968, in Folusz, as Nikifor Krynicki. This new – false – identity was granted to him six years before his death, through a court of law, without his involvement, at the initiative of the Municipal National Council in Krynica. The book contains 73 previously unpublished documents from the trial for the restoration of Nikifor's name and surname, Epifaniusz Drowniak, which took place between 1996 and 2003 in courts in Gorlice, Nowy Sacz, and Muszyna.
