"New, gray, different" is Volodymyr Dibrova's ninth book, which has been published in Ukraine since 1993, when the author moved overseas to the United States. However, it still seems that the writer left only for a minute, leaving behind the door and leaving a gap, in order to be able to take a closer look at Ukrainian, post-Soviet, European, American, etc. life from the outside.
The whimsical interweaving of the incongruous - own and foreign, native and distant, modern and remnants of the past, everyday and absurd - is composed of a polyphonic mosaic of poems, prose miniatures, stories and essays written in 1994-2017. The reader only has to look around - and he will find in the characters of his everyday life, the prototypes of the parable essays included in this edition - and maybe he will laugh, or maybe he will be sad.
