The book tells about a unique monument of ancient Russian writing - a handwritten book of the late 15th century, known as the Koenigsberg or Radzivilov Chronicle. This illustrated chronicle is one of the surviving copies of the famous Tale of Bygone Years with the continuation of ancient Russian history until the beginning of the 13th century. It tells about the origin and settlement of the East Slavic tribes, about the creation of the Old Russian state and the reign of the first princes in it: Rurik, the "prophetic" Oleg, Igor, Svyatoslav, Vladimir, Yaroslav the Wise and their descendants - the Yaroslavichs and Monomashichs. The fate of this book, which is closely connected with the history of Königsberg (modern Kaliningrad), is being investigated. The most complete information about the origin of the manuscript and its role in the formation and development of Russian historical science has been collected.
The book contains rich illustrative material that gives an idea of the development of book culture and ancient Russian painting in Rus'.
