Right after his birth in 1811 the cherished son of Napoleon and Marie Louise was proclaimed the King of Rome and the successor of the throne of the French Empire. Twice Napoleon abdicated in favor of his son, but both times the allies announced the Bonapartes dethroned and proclaimed Louis XVIII the legitimate sovereign of France. In 1815 the boy and his mother were sent to Austria where Napoleon’s son was brought up in the court of his grandfather Francis I. Unfortunately, the boy was only 21 when he died, but his destiny still bothers many historians. Apart from Napoleon son’s biography, the book includes a celebrated play by E.Rostan “Eaglet”.
