The gift edition is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Barguzinsky district. The book reveals the history of the taiga region from ancient times to the present day. The most interesting chapters of the book are about the Bargut tribe who lived before the arrival of the Russians, the legendary country of Bargujin Tokum, the ancestors of modern Buryats, and the steppe Duma. Much attention is paid to the city of Barguzin, in the history of which political exile played a major role: over 200 state criminals were exiled here in different years: Decembrists, Raznochintsev, narodovoltsev.
