Mihaela Gaљpar was born in Zagreb in 1973. She is a sculptor by profession. She has published the novels Without sudden joys please (Aora, Zagreb, 2010), Mitochondrijska Eva (Matica hrvatska Osijek, Osijek, 2013; second edition: Disput, Zagreb, 2015), About teapots and women (Disput, Zagreb, 2016) and a collection of short story Candy, Tobacco, Razor (Disput, Zagreb, 2013). Her prose texts have been published in Vijenc, Vecernji list, literary magazine Re, Balkanski knjiћevni glasnik, on literary portals such as Knjiћevnost.org and Prozaonline. Short stories were read to her on the Third Program of Croatian Radio. In 2010, she won the 2nd prize in the short story competition of the Karlovac Literary Circle "Zlatko Tomicic". In 2011, with one short story, she was shortlisted for a prize at the Pricigin competition, and at the Montenegrin competition "Vranac" for the best stories of the region, she was included in the collection "Izvan koridora, best stories 2011". The manuscript of the novel Mitochondrial Eva was declared the best prose manuscript at In the 7th anonymous competition, the collection of short stories Sweets, Tobacco, Razor was shortlisted for the Ksaver Љandor Gjalski Award in 2013, and the novel O teapots and women was in the final for the Fran Galovic Award of the Osijek branch of Matica Hrvatska in 2012. in 2017, which is awarded for the best book on the topic of homeland and/or identity.
