The system of synodal-diocesan institutions, the types of monastic cloisters, the number and composition of the brethren, and the regulation of the number of monastics in the Vologda diocese are characterized. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the development of economic activities in the monasteries, the establishment of the level of monastic income and expenses, the evolution of the social and charitable activities of monasteries. Both positive and negative influence of church authorities on all aspects of the life of monasteries is revealed.
