This book is our confession of love for the city, which became the heart of Ukrainian statehood. This is our attempt to describe the life of Kyiv a hundred years ago, which is so similar to our life now: battles with the Russians and at the same time the development of Ukrainian art, intellectual meetings and opposition of various social movements.
The heroes of this book are soldiers and politicians, artists, men of letters and writers. Skoropadskyi and Petliura, Narbut and Krychevskyi, Pidmohylnyi and Zerov, Liudmila Starytska-Cherniakhivska and Bronislava Nizhynska and other bold and great personalities of that time who created a new state and a new art.
