History lovers often question historians about what could have happened if events had unfolded differently then and there, what were the alternatives to what happened. After all, it is curious how events would have unfolded if the USSR had not annexed Lithuania in the 1940s. We still lack a broader alternative history narrative of what if there was, what an alternative history would be by choosing events that contradict the actual facts, weaving just such a story or stories. The history of contradictory facts (shorter, perhaps more scientifically sounding - counterfactual), or alternative, Lithuanian history may seem unusual, because... fictional. However, it is fictional based on real knowledge, so what we now know well from the past. It is useful because it encourages us to be interested in history.
