Although it might seem that everything has already been said about Arnost Lustig, the writer and publicist Ladislava Chateau presents him in a completely different light in the interviews she conducted with him at the end of his life and during which she became his friend. In them, they discuss his literary heroines, Katerina Horovitz and Dita Saxova, his relationship with women, and the reasons why he devoted his texts, then one of the few, extensively to the fate of women in liminal situations. In other interviews, the writer and the author's wife Vera Weislitzova, their children Josef and Eva, a fellow prisoner of war and escapee Jiri Justic, family friend Vaclav Spale, and Lustig's editor Irena Zitkova add their memories of Arnost Lustig and his work. Some of the interviews were published in magazines in 2007 and 2008, others were written directly for the book. Some are conducted in a classical form, others were written as letters. The book is interwoven with numerous excerpts from Lustig's work and verses - not only by Vera Weislitzova - like a blue thread. And from all these fragments, memories, reflections and texts, a picture of Arnost Lustig's personality and what Life and Writing meant to him is composed before the reader's eyes.
