The work is dedicated to the analysis of town-dwellers’ welfare standards during the revolution and Civil war period. A whole range of questions, related to life of people is examined in the book: nutrition habits, ways of foodstuffs distribution, salaries, living conditions, sickness and death rates, etc. For the first time the author studies non-traditional, but true for that period of time town-dwellers’ ways to survive, such as theft, handicraft, begging, etc. Attempts of the soviet state to improve life of town-dwellers, in particular, that of workers, are analyzed in the present edition.
