The book is a tribute to the memory of Leonid Nikolaevich Kazarinov (1871-1940), a Chukhloma regional historian, museum and archival figure, one of the most prominent district regional historians of the Kostroma province during the Soviet period. The book publishes for the first time the complete corpus of letters (about 200) from L.N. Kazarinov to his friend and colleague, the head of Kostroma regional studies in the 1920s, V.I. Smirnov (1882–1941). Especially for the book, the author prepared a biography of L.N. Kazarinov based on all identified sources, including those stored in the state archives of the Kostroma region and the department of archives of the administration of the Chukhloma municipal district.
